1 〔物事の状態･調子〕 a condition; a situation; a state; how sth is proceeding.

●天気の具合 the weather; the weather condition(s); how the weather is

・仕事の進み具合をチェックする check how work is progressing

・このステーキの焼き具合は見事だ. This steak is done to a turn.

・寄付金の集まり具合はどうですか. How is the donations situation (going)?

●(機械などの)具合がよい be in good (working) condition [order]; be in (good) shape [trim]

・(機械などの)具合が悪い be out of order [gear, shape, trim, 《口》 kilter]; have something wrong 《with it》

・この機械, どうも最近具合が悪いんですよ. Something has been [There has been something] wrong [the matter] with this machine recently. | This machine just isn't working properly.

・引出しの具合が悪い. The drawers do not move smoothly.

●体の具合が悪い be [feel] unwell [sick, ill]; be in poor health; be in bad shape; 《口》 be [feel] out of sorts; be under the weather

・腹の具合が悪い be sick to one's stomach; feel queasy [nauseous, sick]

・胃の具合が悪い. Something is wrong [There's something wrong] with my stomach.

・体の具合が悪いから彼には会えない. I feel too ill to meet him.

・赤ん坊はどこか具合が悪そうだ. Something seems to be the matter with the baby.

●風邪の具合はいかがですか. How's your cold? | Is your cold any better?

・お父様の具合はいかがですか. How's your father (doing, getting along)?

3 〔都合〕 convenience.

●具合がよい[悪い] 〈物事が主語〉 be convenient [inconvenient]

・明日は具合が悪いなあ. Tomorrow will not be convenient (for me). | I'm afraid tomorrow's no good.

●具合の悪い時に客が来る have a visitor at an inconvenient time

・具合の悪いことに彼女に話を聞かれてしまった. Unfortunately, she heard about it.

4 〔体裁〕 decency; propriety; social acceptability.

●この服装では具合が悪い. These are not the right clothes (for the occasion). | I am not fit to be seen in these clothes.

●あんなことのあとで彼に会うのはちょっと具合が悪い. It wouldn't be quite right [would be rather awkward] for me to see him after what happened.
